The north is in chaos following the death of the rogue wizard Fortrandstrider.

King Henro of Gillenvaln has petitioned the Collegia Magica in Senture for help against the escalating conflicts between his kingdom and the wild free tribes of the northern woodlands.

Senture has dispatched the Mage Hunter Delan to investigate the suspected new magical threat that drives the conflict and put an end to it before war spreads south. Reaching the northern woods above the Wintertide, Delan reunites with Beronwhin, a free tribe leader who wants to see her people embrace peace rather than war.

Together, they investigate a series of raids against peaceful villages near Beronwhin’s home and track the aggressors through the forest.

Delan and Beronwhin soon uncover clues to the truth that Fortrandstrider was not the only terrible thing haunting the northern woodlands. A new power has risen to take the lich’s place, a practitioner of the arcane arts far more dangerous than anything Delan has ever faced.

Delan must make a desperate stand against this threat if there is to be any hope of preventing Gillenvaln from succumbing to the blanket of darkness that will unfold across the whole of the north.
